Children deepen their understanding by playing, talking,
observing, planning, questioning, experimenting, testing, repeating,
reflecting and responding to adults and to each other.
At pre-school we will plan learning experiences,
considering both children’s needs and achievements and the range of
learning experiences that will help them make progress. Well planned
play is a key way in which children learn with enjoyment and challenge
during the foundation stage. |

The
pre-school organises its sessions so that the children can choose from —
and work at — a range of activities and, in doing so, build up their
ability to select and work through a task to its completion. The
children are also helped and encouraged to take part in adult-led small
and large group activities which introduce them to new experiences and
help them to gain new skills, as well as helping them to learn to work
with others. The pre-school has space in the hall so that the children can enjoy outdoor activities (bikes, climbing frame etc.). Activities contribute to children’s health, their physical development and their knowledge of the world around them. The children have the opportunity — and are encouraged — to take part in child-chosen and adult-led activities. |

Toilets Children who are still in nappies or who are toilet training are welcome in Pre-School. We have nappy changing facilities, potties and steps to allow children access to the adult sized toilets and hand basins. Please feel free to talk to a member of staff about the toileting needs for your child. We will work with you in developing your child’s toileting routine. We do have spare clothes within Pre-School should your child have an accident, however, it would be appreciated if you could send in a spare set of named clothes if your child is in the process of toilet training. Clothing The pre-school provides aprons for the children when they play with messy activities. Please send your child in clothes which you do not mind if they get messy. The pre-school encourages children to gain the skills which help them to be independent and look after themselves. These include taking themselves to the toilet and washing hands. Clothing which is easy for them to manage will help them to do this. |

| Snacks
and meals The pre-school makes snacks and meals a social time at which children and adults eat together. We have a healthy eating policy in Pre-School. To promote this we ask that parents do not send in crisps, chocolate or sweets in their child’s lunchbox . We like to give children a healthy snack mid afternoon and to help us to do this we would like to ask for a small donation towards the cost of fresh or dried fruit. Do tell us about your child’s dietary needs and we will make sure that these are met. |
